Sportsmanship

I've worked with children since I was sixteen years old. I started out coaching a group of six year olds. Originally my plan was to be a coaching genius and channel all of my competitive juices, because I had quit the basketball team that year. I took to it naturally and the kids responded well to me so I kept doing it. I'm a very competitive person, so my main goal was to win but somewhere along the line. As I drove the team bus to games, saw them in the hallways, talked to their parents after games. It became about more than winning and losing. It began about the journey that I was going on with the young people in my care.

I realized that I had been blessed to help shape and mold the character of my players. sports had given me so much in terms, and this was my chance to pass that on. I became more intentional in my coaching not only looking for players strengths and weaknesses in basketball but as a person as well.

Basketball became the vehicle to build character. My vision for The Basketball Factory is the same, I want to help to provide children with life lessons that will stay with them.

This week all the schools will be focusing on Teamwork. During this week many of the games and drills we play will be designed to emphasize Teamwork.

One of the games we will be playing this week is called the Hungry Snake. During this game students have to work together to collect all of the balls in the room, while remaining connected.

Ways you can put Teamwork into action this week with your child.
  • Let them help you prepare dinner.
  • Help wash the dishes
  • If they have siblings they can work on a project together(puzzle)
  • Take turns using favorite toys.

Thank you so much for the honor of working with your children.
